Are eye exams on your back-to-school checklist?

One Eye Exam Can Make a Difference graphic

The optometrists at Forsight Vision in Long Grove know these last few weeks of summer and first weeks of the new school year can be chaotic for families. Dr. Todd Cohan and Dr. Emily Pott know first-hand since they are busy parents themselves. School supply shopping, sports physicals, team try-outs, meet-the-teacher events… the list can be daunting!

Why eye exams should be a priority.

Research shows that learning and vision are strongly related. It’s estimated that 80% of children’s learning occurs through visual processing*, therefore, we recommend annual eye exams to identify vision correction issues and vision-related learning problems. We worked hard last year to raise awareness about the value of annual eye exams for kids. We’re continuing our quest by kicking off our 2nd Annual Back-To-School campaign this week.

We recommend parents schedule eye exams for their kids near the beginning of the school year. This allows us to address possible issues as early as possible, perhaps ordering new glasses or contact lenses, before school is in full swing.

Increasing awareness brings funding to non-profits.

As a direct result of getting more kids to have eye exams, in 2016, Forsight Vision donated $500 to Joanie’s Closet, a committee under Lake Zurich’s District 95 Educational Foundation that serves under-resourced District 95 students and their families, assisting with basic needs to help students achieve their full potential.

This year we will be asking our Facebook followers to help us select the not-for-profit schools and programs that will receive the donations. And don’t forget that Kindergarten eye exam forms are due to Illinois schools by October 15, 2017.

How you can help.

One eye exam really CAN make a difference for your child and can help the lives of countless students benefitting from Forsight Vision’s 2nd Annual Back-To-School Campaign. For every children’s comprehensive eye exam** during the months of August, September and October, Forsight Vision will make a donation to support the efforts of non-profits selected with the help of our patients and Facebook followers.
