Unlike physical therapy that aims to strengthen the muscles of your body, vision therapy does not strengthen the muscles of your eyes. Instead, our Long Grove Optometrists use vision therapy to retrain certain learned aspects of vision. Think of it as physical therapy for your brain and eyes.
Vision therapy does this through neuroplasticity, a customized, non-surgical, doctor-supervised, program of visual activities that improve visual skills and correct certain vision problems. In other words, vision therapy “teaches” the visual system to correct itself.
Because it can treat eyestrain, it may provide some measure of eye pain relief.
To perform vision therapy, our optometrists in Long Grove use a variety of lenses, prisms, filters and computer-assisted visual activities. Our optometrist may use other devices, such as metronomes, balance boards, and non-computerized visual instruments as part of your customized vision therapy program.
Prior to beginning any vision therapy program, our eye doctors in Long Grove IL perform a comprehensive vision examination. We utilize a number of diagnostic tests to determine your depth perception, responsiveness to light, pressure inside the eyes, eye muscle capabilities, overall health of the eyes, and more. Our optometrists also perform tests to determine if your eyes move, focus, and work together properly. Depending on the findings of these tests, our optometrist may suggest vision therapy for vision correction.
Located in Long Grove, our optometrists at Forsight Vision also serve families in Killdeer, Lincolnshire, Vernon Hills, Riverwoods, Lake Zurich, and Arlington Heights, IL. Make your appointment today by calling (847) 955-9393 or making an online appointment request.
